UK area with most amount of Syrian migrants

The city which has taken in the most migrants under the Government’s resettlement scheme has been revealed.

Home Office figures show Coventry, in the West Midlands, has taken on 105 migrants between October and March.

The highest among all the local authorities, the statistics were unveiled as part of the UK’s expanded resettlement programme of Syrian refugees across the country.

The next highest was in Nottingham, which received 81 refugees in the same time frame.

By region, Scotland took the highest number of migrants – a third – with 610.

Next highest was Yorkshire and the Humber which welcomed 171 migrants.

The capital, London, only accepted 33, while none were placed in the North West.

In the six months from October, a total of 1,602 Syrians were resettled throughout the UK.

Cameron has pledged to resettle 20,000 people from Syria by 2020 – at a cost of half a billion pounds.
