Anti-Migrant Rally Held in Bulgaria’s Sofia

A demonstration calling for the government’s resignation over its “failure” to deal with the influx of migrants was held in the Bulgarian capital Sofia.

Dozens of nationalist supporters accused the cabinet of PM Boyko Borisov of applying double standards with regard to migrants and the Bulgarian population itself.

Some of the posters held by demonstrators included images of Borisov depicted with a fez hat or inscriptions reading “BGN 200 for a pensioner, BGN 1200 for a refugee. Thank you, Boyko.”

“We are racists and do not want to live with these people whom we [dislike],” BGNES wire service quotes protesters as saying.
Bulgaria has largely remained out of the way of migrants willing to cross into Europe, using mainly routes via Greece and Macedonia to continue westward.

With some neighbors stepping out security along their borders and Greece seeking to produce new measures, however, concerns are on the rise in Bulgaria that the flow of migrants could possibly increase.
